Costume and set design
George (As toddler)
Due to the fact George's character is adopted from an early age into a middle-class American family, his costume will consist of something like the picture taken in the 50's of a group of boys within middle class society.
As you can see within the photo, the boys are all wearing similar clothes that consist of:
- a polo shirt,
- jumper,
- cut- off trousers, that are quite high- waisted and belted,
- rolled up socks,
- and smart shoes.
George (As a young adult)
George's transition from a child into a teenager/ young adult begins on his "journey to private school" where me and Taylor pull down the bottom half of his trousers and place a blazer and tie on him. However, throughout the performance, his costume becomes more dishelved along with his mental state of mind. The picture shown has the boys wearing shorts, however because we want the audience to realise that he is different, therefore he wouldn't wear exactly the same as other boys.
Taylor (Father)
As a working businessman and part of a middle class family, he would be dressed very smart, yet but slightly casual. His costume will consist of:
- smart, white shirt, with the top button un-done,
- a tie,
- tweed blazer (possibilty)
- black, belted trousers,
- smart, black shoes.
Like George, Taylor's costume would be slightly dishelved by the end of the performance, but not as much as George, just to show his distress as a father, so he may no longer be wearing his blazer and tie, or his tie will be slightly un-done, but his top button will be un-done.
Tayla (Mother)
Being a housewife in the 1950's, my costume would be very stereotypical of women in this era. My costume will stay the same throughout, to show my character being controlling and always putting on an illusion that nothing's wrong. My costume will consist of:
- short, sleeved button-down shirt,
- past-the-knee pleated skirt,
- pinny apron,
- pearl necklace and earrings,
- flat, dolly shoes or smalled heeled shoes.
Paige (Doctor, sister)
Paige is the only character that multi-roles throughout the performance, therefore her costume will be simple enough to cover over. Considering her main part is the sister, her costume will consist of:
- jumper,
- collared shirt,
- skirts,
- socks,
- flat, dolly shoes.
However, as she begins the performance as the doctor, she would be wearing a white coat, tights and perhaps small heeled shoes and glasses.
